Gulf County is home to the highest density of nesting Loggerhead Sea Turtles in Northwest Florida, with sea turtle nesting season running from May 1 through October 31. During this time, beachgoers are encouraged to keep beaches clean, flat, and dark to help protect nesting turtles and emerging hatchlings. The area is home to more than 28% of the region’s Loggerhead sea turtle nests, making conservation efforts especially important.
The initiative also highlights Gulf County’s Leave No Trace Ordinance, which helps preserve the beaches and wildlife habitats. Visitors are asked to remove beach equipment each evening, fill in holes before leaving, properly dispose of trash, keep pets leashed, and follow regulations regarding bonfires and beach activities. These simple actions help protect wildlife, maintain beach safety, and keep the coastline beautiful for everyone to enjoy.
