Gulf County Chamber staff highlight the beach’s charm lies in its commitment to preserving a more relaxed atmosphere. Joe Whitmer, president and CEO of the Gulf County Chamber, emphasized the importance of tourism for the local economy, noting the preference for vacation homes over high-rise condos.
“Our main industry in Gulf County at this time is tourism, and so we need people to come and to book these beautiful vacation homes that are out here on the cape,” said Whitmer. “That’s one of the things that really makes it unique is their vacation homes, not condos, not high rises.”
Cape San Blas attracts travelers from around the world, with many opting to stay in rental vacation homes, fostering a family-friendly vacation environment. This distinction has helped the area maintain its appeal and draw increasing numbers of visitors each year.
The recognition from USA Today is expected to boost tourism further. Whitmer noted a surge in vacation rentals and new vacation homes being built, though many of these homes are also becoming private residences.
In addition to its stunning natural beauty, Cape San Blas is seeing growth in its hospitality sector, with new restaurants and potential boutique hotels on the horizon, further enhancing its appeal as a top vacation destination.
As Cape San Blas continues to develop, its emphasis on maintaining a balance between growth and preserving its unique charm will be key to its ongoing success as one of Florida’s best beaches.
